The Shadow of the Institution

I am proud to announce that Grex and the A. K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems are co-sponsoring a Group Relations Conference title “The Shadow of the Institution” at UCLA on May 18 through 20, 2018. This experiential leadership training event will mark our return to the UCLA campus after many years.

Leadership, Authority, Integrity, and Organizational Narratives

The theme of the conference is awakening from our current national and global climate of resignation and despair, loss of faith and hope, and growing collective melancholy. In expanding and deepening our consciousness, participants will bear witness to evidence that organizing and working with others towards a common goal serves as a healing process. A broader possibility of change is established by connecting to the authority of one’s personal power and interacting around issues of importance with members of one’s social network, work group, or community. Management interacting with transparency, working within and across boundaries, bridging the differences that divide us, and finding one’s place in the group are all aspects of our organizational life. This suggests that in our search for meaning and purpose, the narratives which define organizational life can be re-written.
